Former President Theodore Roosevelt described the Chautauqua as "the most American thing in America." Our Chautauqua-style home follows the original evolution of a highly popular late 19th-century educational movement that brought culture and education to entire communities. The communities were developed with very small lots and very accessible 'common' areas including auditoriums.
The typical home was seasonal, inviting, and easy living for family and friends. Complete with summer sleeping decks, a large front porch, side entrance for everyone after a day's activities which often included swimming, fishing, and sailing the lakes (and or nature hikes, camping, and bird watching in the mountains).
We have updated these 'camps' that would be 'home base' for all to attend the musicians, entertainers, preachers, and specialists of the day. Today's version is an open and practical plan with lots of storage, big mud room, 3 or 4 bedrooms, 2-1/2 bath design that is less than 1,900 sf.
